Older People's Services

Community Integrated Care has provided quality care and support services to older people in Scotland for almost 20 years. We have six Older People's Services based in Dumfries and Galloway and Stranraer that deliver specialist dementia care, providing Residential CareNursing CareRespite Support and Day Care.

Our homes are at the heart of their local community. We aim to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the people we support and their loved ones, and to deliver truly person-centred care. We look to involve local people in our services and to make them friendly and fun places, where there is always something interesting going on.

All of our services are focused on meeting the health, wellbeing and social needs of the people we support. By providing support from well trained and caring staff in homely facilities, we are able to promote their dignity, comfort and independence. To support this, our colleagues are trained to adopt leading person-centred practices developed by our partners at Helen Sanderson Associates. We recruit our colleagues for their values and aim to match them well with the people they support, so they can enjoy great days together.

Our services work in partnership with a diverse range of professionals including academics, advocacy groups, local commissioning teams, clinicians and GPs. They also have flourishing links with their local NHS IDEAS (Interventions for Dementia: Education, Assessment and Support) team, who help us to review and embed best practice dementia care approaches.

Innovative Approaches

We’re proud that our success at delivering high-quality care and support has been recognised at the likes of the Scottish Care Home Awards, National Care Awards, National Dementia Awards and 3rd Sector Awards. These awards celebrate our creative activity programmes, the dedication of our colleagues, our innovative approaches and community engagement.

Community Integrated Care is committed to sharing its best practice in dementia care. For example, in 2015, our award winning care home Carlingwark House offered insight from its award-winning approach to continence care to co-produce a national guide on the topic with Scottish Care, Scottish Government, NHS Continence Advisers, the Scottish Dementia Working Group, ACA and the National Dementia Carers Action Network. We’ve also presented at the likes of the Scottish Dementia Congress and The Gathering.

Many of our services have undertaken training in partnership with Stirling University and Alzheimer's Scotland. Several also adopt leading approaches such as Playlist for Life, the music therapy for people living with dementia, which uses the music that has been important in a person’s life to connect them with treasured memories.
