Thorneycroft residential care home is situated in the small and friendly town of Stranraer, in the South West of Scotland. Thorneycroft caters for 60 older people, with a range of needs, including dementia and frailty. We can also provide respite support in our home.

Our service also includes an adjoining day service, which offers people the opportunity to spend time with company, enjoying engaging activities and social interaction.

Our Support

  • Our staff are specially trained to care for a people with a range of needs, including age-related conditions such as dementia.
  • We can also provide short-term respite support and end of life care.
  • We have close links with support groups including The Alzheimer’s Society; Age UK (Formerly Age Concern / Help the Aged); Chest, Heart and Stroke Support Group; Parkinson’s UK and other local advocacy groups.
  • We hold regular meetings so residents influence how their home is run.

Home Comforts

  • Thorneycroft has been recently refurbished and offers great facilities.
  • Out home is divided into 6 wings. Each wing caters for 10 residents and features a dining room, kitchenette, TV lounge and quiet area.
  • Residents have fully en-suite rooms private rooms.
  • We have accessible bathing facilities.
  • The large garden and courtyard area provides lovely surroundings in a safe environment.
  • We provide a varied menu for residents, cooking nutritious meals made with fresh ingredients as well as themed celebration menus.

An Active Life

  • We have a fully adapted accessible minibus used for regular trips out. 
  • Thorneycroft is close to local shops, libraries, banks and parks, and offers superb views of picturesque Stranraer.
  • We have no restrictions on visiting hours and we actively encourage friends and family to visit and be involved with life within the home.
  • Thorneycroft offers a broad range of activities for residents including as cinema evenings, pamper days, arts and crafts, music afternoons and entertainment.
  • We support all our residents follow and maintain their cultural and religious beliefs.
