What happens when you drink one pint?
- Alcohol is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream
- After just 10 minutes, 50% of the alcohol will have been absorbed into the bloodstream
- It takes up to one hour for each unit of alcohol to be broken down by your liver.
Drinking alcohol has the following effects:
- Makes you act in an embarrassing way
- Blurred vision
- Speech slurring
- Loss of balance
- Slowed down reactions
- Reduced ability to measure and judge speed, space and distance
- Leads to less self control
- Can lead to temporary loss of body function and co-ordination
- It can lead to unconsciousness or even a coma
- There is also a risk of vomiting whilst unconscious or in heavy sleep which can cause death by asphyxiation (suffocation).
