Winners were presented with their trophies at gala ceremonies held at the Marriott Hotel Gosforth Park, Newcastle, and Manchester United Football Club on 20th and 23rd November 2009, respectively.

The awards were part of a series of regional care awards, celebrating success across the care sector. Aimed at promoting best practice, the awards paid tribute to individuals and companies who had demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field.

Judges also paid tribute to Care Innovator, Caroline Bairstow, for championing CIC’s social inclusion group – Step up to Life, saying, “The Step up to Life initiative is truly innovative in the field of social inclusion and involving service users. The concept of focus on specific projects gives the whole scheme real purpose. Caroline demonstrated true passion for her work in this area.”

CIC demonstrated a wide range of skills amongst its staff by also having finalists in the Care Home Manager, Care Trainer and Care Team categories, thanks to Amanda Parkin, Manager at Pinfold Lane, Leeds, Stephanie Marsden, St Lukes Care Homes, Runcorn, and the staff team at Belle View Terrace, Durham.

CEO, Phil Edgington said, “We are absolutely delighted that so many of our staff received recognition at this year’s Great British Care awards. I have no doubt that the number and quality of entries for these awards was extremely high, and their success is a testament to their hard work and commitment.”

He concluded by saying, “It is also an honour to be named as both North East and North West Care Employer of the Year, ahead of an impressive array of finalists. We understand that we could not achieve even a fraction of our good work without the dedication, enthusiasm and loyalty of our staff. Given how much they give to us, we are committed to making sure we give something back to them too.”

Winners will now attend the national Great British Care Awards final at London’s prestigious Guildhall, in May 2010.
